Luxembourgish Moselle water turbidity
The Moselle river has usually no clear and transparent waters. Only in very few days of the year (see photo above) we have the privilege of a limpid and clear river. Most of the time, the water has a greenish color and some turbidity, I suppose caused by micro-algae in suspension. In periods of high…

Moselle water level surge in January 2024
Between January 2, 2024 at 14:00 and January 3 at 4:00 the water lever surged from 317cm to 454cm. 137cm in 14 hours, almost 10cm/h average water level increase. Photos of the surrondings of the Schwebsange marina during the high water can be seen here.

Unusual temperature spike in Moselle water on 30 and 31 december 2023
The Moselle Water temp in Palzem spiked unusually to 13.5°C in December 2023, initially puzzling the blogger. They considered a malfunction at the measuring station or Cattenom nuclear plant’s influence—both deemed unlikely. Updates suggest a sensor malfunction, with later data corrections supporting this theory.

Moselle water temperature during the year (Perl)
What is the temperature of the Moselle water in each season around Perl / Schengen ? As there is no website that makes easily accessible historic data, I have decided to keep track manually and publish it here. The source of information is the German measuring service. Chart – Temperature from 1.1.24 to 8.12.24 (chart…

Formation of ice in the Schwebsange marina
While the water on the Luxembourgish Moselle does not freeze frequently, thanks to the constant movement due to the current, the water inside of the Schwebsange marina is subject to freezing in particularly cold periods of the year. The formation of an ice layer on the surface in the marina is not only enabled by…

A possible malfunction of the flow measuring station in Perl
I have noticed that the chart and text related to the flow in m3/s of current on the Moselle River in Perl shows consistently a peak / spike in the last measurement. That spike smooths then at the following refresh. Also, by hovering the mouse over the previous values as well as on the immediate…

Interesting water level patterns in the luxembourgish Moselle
Probably caused by changes in settings of the waterlock (écluse, Schleuse)

Prediction of water level in Perl based on levels in Custines
This is an initial analysis of the evolution of the water level in Custines, F (km 343,6) and in Perl, D (km 242,0) to determine if there is a pattern that can be used to predict the level of water in Perl based on the level in Custines (about 100 km downstream). The current analysis…

Water levels and current in Schwebsange – observations
Every time we have an increase of water level, we ask ourselves “will we get flooded ? at what level should we move our items in a safer place” ?Of course we know that 2,3m in Perl is a very safe level and we also know that 8m in Perl is a disaster. But what…
